DIY Mid-Century Modern Coffee Table
Hairpin legs are really cool to use in DIY projects. They make any table or desk you make looks like it was made in mid-20th century. For example, here is a DIY coffee table made of a sheet of polar wood, a can of stain and a set of hairpin legs. The project is really simple, because all you need to do is to screw the legs to the tabletop and stain this tabletop. Although the result looks great, right?

I’ve just bought a big piece of reclaimed wood and four hairpin legs and now want to put everything together! Is there anything I need to bear in ind before beginning to screw the legs in e.g. Should I drill a hole in to the table to take the screws, or is it sufficient to just start screwing the legs to the table as is?
Apologies in advance – I realise this may be seen by some as a stupid question, but I’m new to this and don’t want to screw it up!

You can always pre-drill holes in order not to screw things up. Although if your piece of wood is quite sturdy you can simply screw the legs to it to save some time.

For those like me in the UK, check out http://www.theironmill.co.uk/ for a range of hairpin legs. They even custom make them if you need a non-standard size.
